A look at some of the differences between NHS and private dental care.
At the Cygnet Dental Practice, we are proud to provide NHS dentistry for Wickford patients. This has been the mainstay of our practice for many years now and helps us to provide preventative dental care, irrespective of income.
We also offer cosmetic dentistry and have had many satisfied customers who have been delighted with results, often changing their teeth from being crooked and discoloured to being beautifully white and even.
Both aspects of dental care have important roles to play within our practice, and we take a look at some aspects of each below.
Dental care on the NHS is designed to keep the nation’s teeth in good health. It has little or no impact on how the teeth look, with the exception of replacing missing teeth with a bridge or dentures, for example. Regular oral health checks can be carried out under NHS dental fees, as can many general procedures, such as fillings, extractions and hygiene visits.
Cosmetic dental procedures are not available on the NHS as these are not viewed as essential for good oral health and consequently they must be paid for privately.
Cosmetic dental procedures
Whilst some procedures, such as dental implants, do have a practical use, many cosmetic dental procedures, such as teeth whitening, are purely cosmetic and there for the sole purpose of improving the patient’s smile. Anyone who follows the news on even a basic level, will be aware of the additional financial strain providing cosmetic dentistry on the NHS would bring.
Although they may not be perceived as ‘essential’, cosmetic dental procedures can change a person’s life in some respects. Aside from the obvious fact that the teeth look nicer, many patients of the Cygnet Dental Practice have reported a significant increase in their ‘feel good’ factor and their confidence. This can be life changing when it comes to meeting new people, and, in some cases, may even have a positive benefit on your career prospects where confidence improves.
We believe that both NHS and private dentistry have an important role to play in improving patient’s lives. Whether this is simply restoring the teeth to a functional state, where the patient can eat and smile again, or creating a fabulous new smile to boost their confidence and feeling of well-being.
Whether you are looking for straightforward oral health care, or for someone to help you have a beautiful smile, you can be sure that the team at the Cygnet Dental Practice will treat you with equal care and respect.
