Improving your teeth on a budget

Achieving a younger looking smile

Unfortunately not all of us have a never ending supply of cash which allows us to do whatever we want. Many of us have issues with our body that we might like improved but our budget wont allow us to do so. However, there are some treatments available that will help with your issues whilst being gentle on your purse too.

One of our features that can cause us concern is our teeth.  Not all of us are blessed with beautiful white teeth, but there are treatments available that can improve your smile quickly and effectively.

Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is a quick and easy treatment that will hugely improve the colour of your teeth. This treatment can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. This tray system takes approximately an hour to work, in which time you could be watching the TV, taking a bath or even preparing dinner. It easily fits into your schedule.

How does it work?

Whitening Gel (containing either Hydrogen Peroxide or Carbamide Peroxide) is loaded into a custom made tray. The tray is then placed over your teeth and worn for approximately one hour. The gel penetrates the teeth releasing the oxygen within the enamel. This erases staining within the teeth making them appear whiter.  The gel is completely safe although can cause your teeth to become sensitive but this is usually just during the treatment.

How white will my teeth go?

Unfortunately its difficult to tell how the teeth will to respond to the treatment.  Everyone is different and the results one person has will be different to another.  Generally you can expect an 8 shade improvement but it usually surpasses this.  We have had patients with a 20 shade improvement.

What if my teeth do become sensitive?

Sensitivity usually occurs just whilst you are whitening your teeth.  When treatment has finished your teeth should return to normal.  This mainly happens to patients who already have sensitive teeth.  A sensitive toothpaste is advised whilst carrying out the treatment.  If the pain becomes too much load some toothpaste into your tray instead of the gel and wear that instead for an hour.  Carry on whitening as normal the following day.  Alternatively place a blob of toothpaste over the effected area and leave over night.

Do I have to be registered with you to have the treatment?

You do not have to register as a general patient to have the Tooth Whitening treatment.  Treatment can be carried out and then you can return to your normal General Dentist.  An examination will be carried out to ensure your teeth are healthy and that no crowns, veneers or bridges are present along your smile line as these will not change colour.  Should you decide to have treatment whilst having any of these prosthetics, then these may need to be changed at a later date due to the shade difference.  White fillings will also not change colour.

If you are considering any type of cosmetic dental treatment, always have the treatment carried out by a dental professional.  Many beauticians offer whitening treatments and patients are tempted due to them charging less for treatment, but they are not specialists in teeth and most hardly know anything about teeth and gums.  Contact Cygnet Dental for professional advice regarding Teeth Whitening and know that your teeth and gums will remain healthy before, during and after treatment – 01268 733078 or visit https://www.cygnetessexdental.co.uk/treatments/teeth-whitening.html.
