Dental Accidents And Sudden Pain

Dental care available for emergency appointments in Wickford, Essex.

Prevention is key to having good oral health. There is no substitute for regular and effective brushing and flossing of the teeth, along with your usual six monthly check ups at our dental practice in Wickford, Essex.

If these basic steps are taken, most patients should only need to receive minor restorative dental treatment during their lives, possibly with the addition of cosmetic dental procedures such as teeth whitening, if they wish to enhance their smile.

Dental emergencies are usually due to one of two things; neglect of the teeth, or accidents. Whilst, as mentioned earlier, decay and gum disease can be avoided with good oral health care, if problems do develop, we will do our very best to relieve your pain, whatever the condition of your teeth. So whatever the reason for your dental emergency, we will always ensure that you are treated with respect at the Cygnet Dental Practice in Essex, and that you receive the treatment that you need.

The other category, of course, is when accidents occur. This may simply be a dental accident where a piece of stone, for example, has found its way into bread, causing a tooth to crack or break when bitten on. Or indeed when an actual accident happens, such as a blow to the face, or a fall from a bike; the latter is not unusual as a cause of broken teeth in children. In the case of a bad accident, you should, of course ensure that there are no head injuries, and if in doubt, visit your local Essex A&E department to be checked out.

Emergency dental care is available at the Cygnet Dental Practice during opening hours and we will always try to see you the same day whenever possible. To help us organise, we ask that you call us as early on in the day as you can. Where this is not possible and we are unable to see you that day, we will offer advice to make you as comfortable as possible and arrange an appointment at the earliest time that we can.

Depending on the nature of the problem, we may be able to fully treat the tooth at the emergency appointment, such as in the case of a toothache caused by dental decay; in which case a filling may suffice. Where damage is more severe, such as a badly broken tooth that needs a crown to preserve it, this may not be possible and a second visit may well be necessary.  We will, however, ensure that we do all we can to make the tooth as comfortable as possible, and protected from further damage until your next appointment.

Whether your dental emergency is a severe toothache caused by decay, or a broken or damaged tooth caused by an accident, always make sure that you take prompt action and call our Wickford dental practice on 01268 733078 and ask for an emergency same day appointment and we will do our best to help you.
