Invisalign Braces – Discreet and Convenient

Why this popular orthodontic system fully deserves its reputation.

When patients attend our Wickford dental practice, telling us that they would like to have their teeth straightened, many ask for more information about the Invisalign braces system to see if this method is viable for their own circumstances.

Whilst there are cases which may not be appropriate for Invisalign, this method can be used in a wide number of scenarios and we are happy to oblige our patients in the use of this excellent orthodontic system, where it is suitable. Why though, do patients of the Cygnet Dental Practice often ask for this particular method?

The prime benefit of Invisalign braces that most people mention, is the fact that it is a highly discreet way of attaining even teeth. Unlike traditional dental braces, there are no wires or brackets made from metal that can be easily seen by others. This is a big plus for patients as many say that they would be embarrassed and potentially avoid social occasions for fear of others seeing their dental braces. So, how does Invisalign work, if not by this method?

Instead of using wires and brackets, Invisalign braces are made from a series of medical grade transparent plastic ‘trays’ that sit over the teeth. These are designed to fit the patient individually, and are generated following computerised analysis of the patient’s mouth and their needs.

There are usually eight trays provided, although this can vary depending on each case. Each tray is worn for a period of time, during which it will exert gentle pressure on the teeth, guiding them towards the desired position. When this has been achieved, the tray is replaced with the next in the series, which continues the process. Eventually, following the final tray, patients of the Cygnet Dental Practice will be left with a set of teeth that are even and straight.

Comfort and convenience

Because of the fact that Invisalign is specifically designed for each patient and only gentle pressure is exerted on the teeth, most patients find them to be a very comfortable method of straightening teeth. Another benefit is their convenience. Unlike eating with conventional braces, where food becomes easily stuck in the wires, Invisalign are simply removed when eating and replaced afterwards. This eliminates any awkward moments at the dinner table.

Cleaning too is easier, and, again, the trays are simply removed whilst you clean your teeth. The trays should also be cleaned and returned to the teeth to resume the straightening process.

You will, of course, be supervised by our Wickford dental team to ensure that the procedure is working as it should, and we are always here to offer advice or answer any questions that you may have about your new orthodontics.
