The most common type of bad breath we all experience is the dreaded morning breath. Especially if you are suffering from a bad cold and feeling bunged up, you find that you sleep with your mouth open which causes the mouth to become dry. Well the latest research suggests that you drink a glass or water when you wake up in the morning to re-moisten the mouth and help remove the substances causing the bad breath.
What causes bad breath?
Bad breath is mainly caused by the bacteria in your mouth producing waste. This waste releases gases which smell. The best way to prevent bad breath is to keep the mouth and teeth clean and minimise the amount of waste produced by the bacteria.
Prevention is the key
Another way to ensure morning breath stays away is to remove all the plaque and bacteria from your mouth the night before. Using a small headed toothbrush and a fluoride toothpaste, brush your teeth for 2 minutes. Don’t forget to clean in between your teeth using either floss or interdental brushes and finish off with a fluoride mouthwash. Once you get in to these good habits you’ll be surprised how quick you will be doing this!
Unfortunately we do not always know we have bad breath and have to rely on a friend or family member to tell us but there is a little test you can carry out yourself. Lick the inside of your wrist with the part of the tongue furthest back in your mouth. Wait for it to dry and then sniff. If it smells bad then chances are your breath smells bad too.
