Three Reasons Why You Shouldn’t Be Afraid Of Your Dental Visits

Making the dental experience less stressful for our Wickford and Rayleigh patients.

It is not unreasonable to say that many people don’t necessarily look forward to their dental visits. Even if no procedure is planned for that specific appointment, there is always the risk that a problem will be found that requires dental treatment to be carried out at a future date.

Although most people accept their anxiety and maintain regular visits, as they know it is important for their oral health, others may be tempted to miss appointments, especially if they are anticipating that treatment may be needed.

Friendly dentists

At the Cygnet Dental Practice, we always try to make sure that our patient’s visits are as pleasant and stress free as possible. Whilst we may not be able to actually ‘cure’ your anxiety, we feel sure that the friendly approach of our dentists, and indeed, all of our team, will help you to at least feel a little less worried about your appointment.

If you are especially nervous about seeing dentists, it is always useful for us to know this in advance when you register at our Wickford dentists. Please don’t be too embarrassed to let us know about this. You are most certainly not alone.

Training and skills

Sometimes, our brains do not process logic too well. In the same way that it may help nervous flyers to travel by understanding how aeroplanes work, some patients find that understanding what happens during a procedure also helps them to come to terms with the various sounds and sensations they will experience. Equally, others may be more squeamish and prefer not to know. We are happy with either approach and, for those who do wish to know, we are always keen to discuss the procedure with them.

All of our dentists are experienced and fully trained to a high standard. The use of specialist equipment here at the Cygnet Dental Practice also makes any required treatment as quick and efficient as possible.

Intervening early

If you do suffer from dental anxiety, it is important to remember that problems very rarely go away, and nearly all will become worse if ignored. This is not to try to scare the patient, but to encourage regular monitoring of your oral cavity. If you do decide to skip an appointment, a small area of decay that may have required a very small filling at the time, will almost definitely spread. By the next time that you come to see us, the tooth will almost certainly need a larger filling, but also may require more extensive treatment, such as the fitting of a dental crown or even root canal work. In a worst case scenario, the tooth may be so badly decayed that it needs to be extracted.

Our dentists are experienced with treating nervous patients and will do all that they can to make your visit as stress free as possible, whether a treatment is required or just for a check up.

We are always happy to see new patients, including those of you who are nervous, at our friendly Wickford dental practice. Why not call us today on 01268 733078.
