Christmas Gift Suggestions For The Smile Conscious

Looking for last minute present ideas for friends and family? We offer some tooth friendly suggestions

Smiling couple with great teethIn what has been another difficult year for many, Christmas may have seemed to come almost out of the blue, leaving some of us scrambling around for ideas of what presents to buy for friends and family.

There is still time of course, and buying last minute presents doesn’t always mean a trip to the overcrowded shops anymore. With more and more people buying online, the options available are also wider and more varied.

But what to buy? There can sometimes be the temptation to go for obvious ‘treats’ such as boxes of chocolates and other sweet things. Inevitably, the vast majority of us will eat some of these over the festive period, but equally, some of us will find that we have been given far more chocolates and biscuits etc than we really want. All of this excess sugar is certainly not good for our teeth and gums.

With this in mind, the Cygnet Dental Practice team offers a few Christmas gift suggestions below that won’t damage your teeth, and in many cases, can benefit them.

Electric toothbrush

If you know anyone who still uses a manual toothbrush, why not ‘upgrade’ them to an electric one. We know that many people have certain habits and they may be unlikely to change unless you buy one for them. Whilst it is certainly possible to brush your teeth efficiently with a manual toothbrush, it is largely believed that an electric one is more efficient as the high speed rotation of the brush helps to remove plaque from your teeth and gum line. These are also an excellent present for older relatives who may suffer from arthritis and other mobility problems and find it difficult to brush their teeth well.

Herbal tea selection

Most of us drink either tea or coffee, but there is a world of very tasty herbal teas now available for people to drink as an alternative. Some claim to offer health benefits, but whilst we can’t really comment on that, what we do know is that most of these teas are less likely to stain your teeth than drinking large amounts of tea and coffee. These herbal teas are often attractively presented and friends and relatives of our Wickford patients might find them a refreshing change after the overindulgence of the festive period.

Cheese selection

For the cheese lover in your family, why not treat them to a selection of cheeses instead of settling for the more obvious box of chocolates? Not only do cheeses not contain the sugar that chocolates do, but they can be beneficial for your teeth. In addition to the minerals such as calcium which they contain and which help to strengthen your teeth, eating a small amount of cheese after a meal will help to neutralise the enamel damaging acids in the mouth and restore it to a neutral PH balance. You can usually buy a selection of cheeses at most supermarkets, or, for something more special, visit your local cheese merchant to make up a more unusual selection.

In addition to the ideas above, there are a couple of popular treatments that we provide at the Cygnet Dental Practice which can make a very good gift for those who are concerned about the appearance of their teeth.

Teeth whitening

Wouldn’t treating someone to a whiter smile make a great Christmas present? We think so, and so do many people who purchase teeth whitening from us as a gift. Our popular home teeth whitening treatment is a great way to start the new year, and many people use them after the festivities have ended so that they can go into the new year feeling more confident in their smile, and very often in themselves too. Our home teeth whitening treatment is straightforward to use and we will provide full details on how to do this at the consultation and we will always be on hand for any questions that you may have during the treatment. By the end of a two week period, your teeth should appear several shades whiter than before, giving you a younger looking smile.

Facial treatments

Another popular treatment we offer is facial aesthetics. To ease out your wrinkles and give you smoother and younger looking skin, we offer a well trusted and established anti-wrinkle treatment that can smooth out those frown lines or ‘crow’s feet’, the lines that sometimes appear around the edges of our eyes. These treatments are safe and our experienced facial aesthetics team will discuss your treatment with you and are happy to answer any questions or address any concerns that you might have.

We hope that today’s blog has given you a few tooth friendly Christmas present ideas and if you would like to purchase a teeth whitening or anti-wrinkle treatment for a loved one, please contact our Wickford practice for more information. You can do so by calling the Cygnet Dental Practice on 01268 733078. Happy shopping!
