Considering Some Smile Improvements For The New Year?

Our Wickford cosmetic dental team looks at ways to achieve a great looking smile!

Great new smileAlthough this time of year can be very busy, planning for festive get togethers and Christmas present shopping, some of us will also be starting to contemplate what we would like the next year to be like. The start of a new year often sees a time when we attempt to improve our lives, whether that is with a change of direction or improving something about the way that we look.

It is also often a time when some of our patients at the Cygnet Dental Practice take the plunge and decide to do something about their teeth, whether that be a significant improvement to teeth that are heavily discoloured or misaligned or just a minor correction to an issue that has been bothering them for some time.

With this in mind, we take a brief look at some of the cosmetic dental procedures that we offer which can help to improve your smile.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics, or dental braces as they are sometimes better known, are a great way of straightening crooked or uneven teeth. This has benefits not only for the appearance of your teeth but also improves the chances of keeping them healthier, as straight teeth are easier to clean and food doesn’t get trapped between them as easily.

We have a range of orthodontics available that can treat different types of problems. One of the most popular of these is Invisalign, an almost invisible orthodontic system that is ideal for significant corrections which include the rear teeth. It is discrete and removable, enabling you to eat and to brush your teeth more easily than when wearing traditional braces.

For those seeking a minor correction of the front teeth, a fast acting orthodontic system is available called Six Month Smiles. This uses the more traditional wire and brackets approach to teeth straightening but in finer materials and natural tooth like colours so that it is less visible. We are happy to advise which option would be most suitable for you, following a consultation.

Teeth whitening

This is one of our most popular cosmetic dental treatments and as it is quick acting, non invasive and very affordable, it isn’t hard to see why.

The system that we use allows patients to whiten their teeth in the comfort of their own home. A whitening agent is put into a set of trays that fit over your teeth and you wear these for a short time each day. Patients usually notice a difference in around one week with the full results being seen at around 14 days.

The trays that are used for these are made from impressions that we take of your own teeth. The trays are then manufactured at a dental laboratory. The benefits of this method, rather than buying an ‘off the shelf kit’ is that the trays will fit better, making them more comfortable and minimising the risk of soft tissue burns from the whitening agent coming into contact with your lips and gums.

Whether your teeth are stained or simply have started to yellow with age, a teeth whitening procedure could be just the thing to give you a great smile for the new year.

Dental veneers

Whilst a teeth whitening procedure is most people’s first choice when they want to have brighter looking teeth, there are instances when it might not be the best one. Where teeth are very heavily stained, such as in the case of a long term smoker, or your teeth have suffered from chipping over the years, you may be a more suitable candidate to have dental veneers.

These porcelain veneers don’t actually change the colour of your natural teeth like a whitening procedure does, but instead, replaces the discoloured or damaged surface of the tooth with a fine porcelain replacement. This does require a more detailed procedure but the results should last for around ten years. It is also often a good solution for patients who have sensitive teeth due to enamel wear.

Facial treatments

It is one thing to have great looking teeth but if your skin is making you look (and feel) old, then why not consider having a facial aesthetics treatment with our experienced Wickford clinicians?

We offer both an anti wrinkle treatment in the form of the popular Botox, and also dermal fillers which can be used to fill up places that have lost collagen as we age. Popular areas for this treatment include sagging cheeks and thinning lips.

If you are looking to improve your appearance in the new year and are not sure where to start, a good place is to arrange an initial consultation at the Cygnet Dental Practice where we can discuss your needs with you and offer an appropriate treatment plan. We can also discuss our payment plans to help you to spread the treatment costs over a period of time.
