A Whiter Smile For The Festive Season Ahead?

Our affordable and fast acting treatment can transform your smile….

Older couple with white teethAs we approach that time of the year which some of us love, and others perhaps less so, we start to turn our attention not only to the shopping for food and presents, but also the many get-togethers that we are likely to attend. From office parties, to meeting relatives we haven’t seen for a long time, the chances are that we will want to look our best whether the occasion is more formal or simply an evening out with friends.

Inevitably this will mean for some, a shopping expedition for clothes and probably a trip to have a new hairstyle for the festive season. If you have already started to think about this, why not also consider improving one thing that everybody notices, and that is your smile.

It is a well known fact that our smile is one of the first things that people notice about us and may well make instant judgments based upon it. By transforming your smile with our home teeth whitening treatment, you can really stand out from the crowd.

What is teeth whitening?

A teeth whitening procedure not only improves the appearance of your teeth by reducing or eliminating any surface staining, but also provides a solution for another problem that no amount of brushing can resolve. As we become older, our teeth start to lose the whiteness that they once had as the inner part of the tooth starts to darken and discolour. Although some of the effects of this can be delayed a little with good care, it will eventually happen. There is only one way to improve this and that is to whiten the inner part of the tooth so that the yellowness does not show through the tooth enamel.

Although the discolouration here is on the inner part of the tooth, you don’t need an invasive treatment to improve this. The tooth whitening treatment that we offer at the Cygnet Dental Practice Wickford offers a non-invasive, comfortable and fast acting way to whiten your teeth by up to eight shades and to do so in the comfort of your own home.

How does it work?

The only way to lighten the inner part of the tooth is by using a safe form of bleaching agent, in this case, it is usually hydrogen peroxide. In professional hands, this is a safe, tried and tested means of whitening teeth. You should not attempt this yourself though, or use anyone offering this that is not qualified. This is easy to spot as only dentists or some qualified dental professionals are now allowed to carry out this treatment in the UK; anyone else offering this is doing so illegally and is  potentially very dangerous to your oral health.

The procedure itself is relatively straightforward and the journey to whiter teeth is usually actioned in this way.

1 – Discuss it with your dentist

This is an important conversation as your dentist will need to check that your teeth are healthy before they start. There is little point in whitening a tooth that is decaying for example. If your teeth are heavily stained, they may also suggest an alternative method, such as dental veneers. Once you decide to go ahead with the treatment, they will discuss the degree of whiteness that you wish to achieve and impressions will then be taken of your teeth. The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory where your bespoke trays will be produced.

2 – Getting started

Once your trays, into which the whitening ingredient will be placed, have been returned to our Wickford dental clinic, we will recall you for an appointment. Here we will show you how to use the trays together with the whitening gel to achieve the desired results. You will be given full instructions and, of course, we will always be available should any questions arise throughout the treatment.

3 – Home treatment

Depending on your situation; i.e. the degree of discolouration and the whiteness you hope to achieve, you will have been advised by the dentist as to how long the trays need to be worn daily. This is usually between one and four hours. As you will be in the comfort of your own home, you can perhaps plan to do this whilst watching your favourite TV programme. Ideally, this should be done around the same time each day. After around one week of doing this, you should start to notice some improvement in your tooth colour. After approximately two weeks of wearing the trays, you should have achieved the whiteness that your custom treatment was designed to achieve.

It may well be that you have decided on this treatment purely to look great for Christmas and New Year celebrations and many patients do this. Some, though, are so pleased with the results that they decide to maintain this new whiteness ongoing. Our dentists will be pleased to discuss the best way for you to achieve this should you choose to do so. Repeated teeth whitening treatments are both effective and safe.

If you would like to find out more about having your teeth whitened for Christmas, or perhaps to treat your partner to one for a present, you can call the Cygnet Dental Practice to arrange an initial consultation on 01268 733078. We look forward to helping you.
