Dr Vashali Nanji – One Of Our Patient Friendly Dentists

Excellent with nervous patients, Vashali also provides a wide variety of treatments for her Wickford patients.

Dentist Vashali Nanji, WickfordIn Vashali Nanji, the Cygnet Dental Practice is proud to have a dentist as part of the team who is especially good at putting even the most nervous patients at ease, helping them to receive essential dental care.

Graduating in 2011 with Honours from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, she offers a valuable service to all of our Wickford patients.

It isn’t just her calm and relaxed manner, along with the gentle way that she administers treatment that our patients admire, but also the beneficial dental procedures that she can provide. In today’s blog, we will take a look at some of these.

Dental implants

Vashali accepts referrals for dental implants which enable those who have missing teeth to have a strong and secure replacement. They are also a popular option for patients who have switched from partial dentures to having implants placed. Dentures still have a role to play in dental care but most dentists would agree that implants now offer the best long term solution for replacing teeth in most cases. Those that replace their dentures with implants are likely to find it easier to eat more difficult to chew foods. There is be no movement of the replacement teeth and cleaning is easy – so it isn’t hard to see why people come to Vashali to have implant treatment.

Dentures

Although we agree with most dentists that modern teeth implants are generally a big improvement on dentures, they may not be for everyone. Where a patient is not suitable for implants or opts not to have them, Vashali will make sure that the most suitable dentures are offered. Although dentures can never be as stable as implants, due to the lack of an artificial tooth root to anchor them, modern dentures are now more natural looking and comfortable than older types and many patients will find them to be a happy compromise. Another option is to consider having dentures which are stabilised by mini-implants.

Tooth wear management

Tooth wear can be caused by a number of things. Teeth grinding (Bruxism) is one and enamel erosion through diet is another.  Although we can’t deal with the causes of Bruxism, which is largely thought to be caused by anxiety, we can help patients to manage and rebuild their smile once they have overcome it. Damage caused by teeth grinding will vary according to the severity of it. Where teeth have become chipped, it may be possible to restore them through fillings or composite bonding. In many cases though, damage is more likely to be teeth that are broken or severely worn down through constant grinding. Where this is the case, a dental crown will sometimes be needed to restore both aesthetics and functionality to the damaged teeth.

Enamel erosion caused by acidic food and drinks usually occurs on the front teeth as the food and drink passes over and between them. This can cause the enamel on the front surface of the tooth to become thinner, often leading to sensitive teeth. Reduced enamel also means a greater risk of tooth decay.

One option to treat this is through the use of dental veneers which are made from porcelain or composite material and placed on the front surface of the teeth. This often involves minor dental surgery but offers a solution that is both natural looking and can last for ten years or more with appropriate care.

Dental phobia

As we mentioned earlier, Vashali enjoys helping to put nervous patients at ease and many will attest to her chairside manner and how it helps them to relax. From her calm manner to the ability to explain the procedure and what to expect during it, many patients now receive their treatment in a more relaxed manner than before.

Being a little nervous about medical intervention of any kind is perfectly normal and experienced by many. For most patients, the anxiety levels are relatively low and they are able to keep appointments regularly. For those who are more anxious though, appointments may be cancelled. Unfortunately, this can only lead to a deterioration in oral health and will probably result in more extensive treatment being needed in the future.

So if you are a nervous patient, please let us know about it. The dentists at the Cygnet Dental Practice will always endeavour to help you feel as relaxed as possible during your examination or treatment.
