There are signs that summer is almost over and even more signs in the shops that Christmas is not that far away. Although colder days are certainly on their way, it is also a time when quite a few social events happen, especially as Christmas looms nearer. With this in mind, we thought that we would remind patients of the benefits of having whiter teeth in plenty of time for the festivities.

Everyone wants to look their best and having whiter teeth is a straightforward and fast acting way to make an instant and long lasting impression on those around you. Looking your best is a great way to celebrate the festivities at Christmas and the new year.

First impressions

It has been claimed that when we meet someone for the very first time, we make a judgement about them in the first few seconds. This can be the difference between someone quickly glancing at you before moving on, or coming over to talk to you. This is especially important for those hoping that Christmas will bring some romance into their life. Even on a social level, you are potentially more likely to make new friends with a white and friendly smile than you are with a discoloured one.

Feeling confident at parties

If you see someone new that you want to make contact with at a party and especially if you find them attractive, it is easier to strike up a conversation if you feel confident about yourself. There was a time when we could choose what pictures of ourselves to show to others, and even then, often only to a small and select group of people. These days, anyone may have their photo taken at a party and have it uploaded to social media without their knowledge. It is very difficult, if possible at all, to prevent this from happening so you may as well look your best in case this happens at a party you go to.

Why now?

You might be thinking that we are perhaps a little premature in suggesting that you might want to have your teeth whitened in time for Christmas and we accept that it is still a little way away.  One reason of course, is simply to give you time to consider whether it is something that you might be interested in and possibly save a little money towards. It might also give you some ideas for Christmas presents. Asking someone to pay for your teeth whitening would make a very nice gift and is something that does happen with some of our patients. You might even like to treat a friend!

There is also the issue of your general oral health. You can’t really just turn up and have your teeth whitened ‘on the spot’. It is important that your teeth and gums are healthy before we carry out any cosmetic dental work on your teeth. There is little point in having an attractive white smile if your teeth are decaying or are damaged, so it is important that your oral health is checked and any restoration carried out before we whiten your teeth. It makes sense then to do this in time so that you can have your treatment in time for Christmas.
